The Coming Penny Harvest Recently, many believers were having multiple incidents where they were finding pennies. Interestingly, this past holiday season, 100 million pennies were put into a huge installation at Rockefeller Center and named the Penny Harvest Field. In a recent time of prayer, I saw before me a vision of a wheat-penny. I also, heard the words J.C. Penney. In the ensuing days, the Lord began to download to me some of its prophetic significance. A Penny for a Day’s Wages A measure of wheat or three measures of barley equaled a day’s wages at the time this Scripture was written. In other words, a penny for a day’s work. This coming harvest is going to require a lot of hard work, but it will be well worth the labor to bring in the wheat, which is the harvest. And God will supernaturally protect and provide for those being daily filled with the oil of His Spirit and faithfully serving His fine wine. They won’t be able to be touched by the enemy, for they are sealed by His Spirit. The Penny Harvest Field The penny harvest began in 1991, with a simple question form then four year old Nora Gross: “That man is cold. Why can’t we take him home?” She was referring to a homeless man she saw while walking down New York City’s Broadway with her father, Teddy Gross, found of Common Cents. |
That question was the catalyst for what was to become the Penny Harvest Program. Gross began “harvesting” in his building by asking neighbors if they had any pennies, and asking how they would feel about gibing them to the homeless. This program capitalizes on these annually discarded pennies, estimated at about two million dollars a year. This is the time when the Lord is seeking diligently after those whom many have discarded and left to die. God will use one sent (one cent) by Him as well as common ones to reach them. Together they will reap the harvest. “This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3-4 NIV) Restoring the Lost Pennies In order to bring in the unsaved, the Lord is going to bring a new zeal to His house for creative evangelism. God will open our hearts to welcome home His Prodigal sons and daughters. An Accountable Harvest One of the questions the Lord will be asking in this next move of God is What have you done with the pennies I have given you? This harvest is going to be a very accountable harvest. “Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? Show Me the tax money.” So they brought Him a denarius. And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” (Matthew 22:17-21 NKJV) He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. 11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? (Luke 16:10-11) God will be looking for faithful and good stewards of financial resources to see if they can be entrusted with this next move of God. One of the meanings of the name Penny is “a bobbin worker.” This indicated one who is a good sower. The Lord has an ironclad promise to those who obey Him in the sowing of finances into His kingdom. The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. (Deuteronomy 28:12NKJV) Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days. He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap. In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening do not withhold your hand. Truly the light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to behold the sun. (Ecclesiastes 11: 1, 4, 6a,7 NKJV) Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till He comes and rains righteousness on you. (Hosea 10:12) When we sow as God directs, into prepared and good soil, we can be sure that we will reap with great joy. For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace. (Isaiah 55:10-12a NKJV) A Greater Accountability for Our Words Little things, like pennies, will mean a lot in this next move of God. This will especially be true of our words. You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat. (Romans 14:10 NIV) “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:36-37 NKJV) Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. (Psalm 34: 13-14 NKJV) The Holy Spirit will come with a searing conviction to reveal just how evil it is when brethren sow discord in the house of God through slander, accusation, gossip, backbiting, and other such things. It grieves the Lord’s heart. Counting the Cost And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it- (Luke 14:27-28 NKJV)
